So Your Wife Said You Bring A Dance Pole Home

July 4, 2009

Since dance poles have moved from strip clubs to suburbia how do you choose the right one for your house?

That’s right, dance poles have suddenly become the ‘in’ thing. Celebrities like Paris Hilton, Teri Hatcher, Carmen Electra, Daryl Hannah, Pamela Anderson, Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, Fergie, Cindy Crawford and many others have them.

There are many different types of dance poles and now you have to decide which one to purchase.

Some of your options are…

·         Portable dance poles

·         Removable dance poles

·         Spinning dance poles

·         Dance poles with stages

Portable dance poles typically use friction to hold them in place. Many come with a carrying case and tool kit to make them easier to set up, take down and transport, hence the distinction portable. Or should it be called the in-law pole ~ quick take down.

Removable dance poles, obviously, can be set-up when needed and taken down to be stored away when they are not needed. Many use friction to secure them in place while others might have a hidden ceiling fixture for additional stability. Think about where your dance pole will be used as that area might affect your decision.

Spinning dance poles, they really do spin or you can put in a pin to stop the spinning action, are another option. The spinning option makes it easier to do spin moves on the dance pole. This is the pole for you if easy spin moves are important.

And finally, we have stages with dance poles, a 4’ x 4’ stage with a hole in the center for your dance pole.

Most of these dance poles have extensions that will accommodate high ceilings. They can also be custom made for lower ceiling heights.

While many use friction to hold the dance pole in place some have a larger ceiling plate that spans 2 ceiling joists for additional support. Check your area to see what will work for you.

There are other options available to you.

Your dance pole could be stainless steel, brass or powder coated in a variety of colors. But will you really notice the pole color when the lights are down low and you are being entertained? I certainly wouldn’t notice the color at that particular time. But if color is important, you do have choices available.

There are dance poles that are lighted. Adding some light kits you can highlight the pole dancing. You can get as exotic as you want with lighting.

If you go with the dance stage and pole you will be able to choose from a multitude of stage tops or coverings. And don’t forget they say it can double as a coffee table when the dance pole is removed. Hmmmm…
